We would like to congratulate the laboratories at the Bamrasnaradura Infectious Disease Institute on passing their independent inspection and becoming accredited.
In April 2007 the Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology and Virology laboratories at the Bamrasnaradura Infectious Disease Institute, Bangkok received their accreditation from the Association of Medical Technologists, Thailand. Accreditation is independent recognition that the laboratories have systems in place that meet international laboratory quality standards. It shows competency in their technical capacity, effectiveness of their quality management systems, and in their provision of high quality patient services.
To become accredited a laboratory needs to establish quality systems that meet the requirements in many different areas including:
- Organization and management
- Personnel
- Laboratory instruments and equipment
- Procurement and external services
- Process and document control
- Internal and external quality controls
- Quality assurance systems, including external proficiency systems
- Control of nonconformities and continuous improvement systems
- Quality management documentation, systems and procedures
